Is it illegal to talk about good traits of a stock your investing in if you own stock in it?

Have not invested yet, been playing VSE numerous games with 8.5% returns over 5 months.

No.

Although it can be if you are in the business and it is usually considered bad form for anyone not to disclose a financial interest anytime they talk without mentioning the fact.

For example, if I talk about Berkshire (BRKA or BRKB) and mention that I own it that is enough for good form…the same thing that you did within your question.

On the other hand, watch what I do if I talk about what a good long term investment Philip Morris International (PM) is at the right price…even if I qualify that it is just my opinion.

(Disclosure: I own PM)
